The Montgomerie family originally lived in Saint Foi de Montgomery, Normandy in Northern France before migrating to Scotland in the 11th –century. King Malcolm III of Scotland granted the family lands in the Renfrewshire district.
The Montgomerie’s Highlanders was formed in 1757 after the name of its colonel, the Hon. Archibald Montgomerie. This elite regiment supported Kings George II and III of Great Britain in victorious battles against the French in North America.
The family has produced many notable figures down the centuries including Alexander Montgomerie, poet at the court of King James VI of Scotland in the 16th-century and Viscount Montgomery of Alamein in the 20th-century.
From this noble lineage came the birth at the end of the 20th-century of Montgomerie’s Rare Select Malt Scotch Whisky.
